Don't let them grind you down.

Here's a story to gladden the hearts of the 'little man'. The moral is, never kow-tow to bullies.

May I present in evidence the following:

So, here are two logos. The one on the right is of the old-established German company Teekanne; the one on the left was drawn up for a new shop in Richmond called The Tea Box. When Tea Box applied to have its logo trademarked they were amazed that the German company had blocked the application on the grounds that it was too similar to their own trademarked logo and could confuse customers. Teekanne sued Tea Box.

Well, you can see their point can't you? The one logo has Teekanne on it, the other doesn't. The one is red, the other isn't. The pot illustrated on one has a top handle, the other doesn't. One has green and yellow in it, the other doesn't.

Good heavens, they're virtually identical.

A legal battle ensued. It could have cost Tea Box thousands, and if Teekanne had won, it would have meant that no-one anywhere could have a logo with a teapot (or a kettle?) on it.

In the end, Teekanne realised they were on to a loser. Teekanne has a staff of over 1,300 in eight countries, but does not rule the world, and withdrew its ludicrous claim. They sent Tea Box a supply a biscuits to have with their cup of tea.

Do not give in to bullies.
